What's New In Eastern Gaston?
The mayors of all six towns in Gaston County's fast-growing easternmost townships met recently to talk about cooperation and collaboration among the communities with Chamber members and friends at City Cafe in Mount Holly. From left are: Mayor Robert Whitt of Mount Holly, Mayor Richard Boyce of Belmont, Mayor Ronald Murphy of Cramerton, Mayor Frank Guida of Stanley, Mayor Farrell Buchanan of McAdenville, Mayor Judy Horne of Lowell and Chamber Board Chairman Titus Workman of the Gaston Gazette.

Community Blood Center of the Carolinas opened its first satellite donation center on May 5, 2008, in Belmont. The center is located in the CaroMont Health Building at 1212 Spruce Street, just off Highway 273. It will collect platelets and whole blood. CBCC is a nonprofit organization formed in 2001 by four hospital systems in the region. All of the blood collected goes to local patients at 14 area hospitals including Gaston Memorial, Piedmont Medical Center, and all of the Carolinas HealthCare and Presbyterian hospitals in the Charlotte area. New Name Reflects New Vision for Chamber
The Belmont Chamber is changing its name in 2008 to the Montcross Area Chamber of Commerce. After many months of deliberation about future direction, the Board of Directors has determined the Chamber can be most effective by expanding its vision to serve a wider community.

Our amazing 262 percent growth over the past three years has attracted members from Charlotte to Gastonia and from Mountain Island Lake to the Lake Wylie community. Historically, we served mainly the Belmont community. Today, we represent businesses in many communities in eastern Gaston County and beyond. To effectively serve our members and advocate for this entire area, our Board decided a name change was required.

Why Montcross Area? We believe over time the 1,100-acre Montcross project, stretching five miles along Interstate 85 between the Catawba and South Fork rivers, will create a widely accepted identity for this part of Gaston County. You’ll see us incorporate the Montcross Area Chamber name gradually, including at some point updating this web site. Please bear with us as we work through this change.
